WATEREUSE ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES ANNUAL AWARDS
ALEXANDRIA, VA - The WateReuse Association announced the recipients of the
Association's Annual Awards at its 2003 Symposium on September 8 in San Antonio,
Texas. The Awards Program recognizes organizations and individuals that have
made outstanding contributions to water reuse during the preceding year. Highlighting
successful projects helps the public and public officials recognize water reuse
projects that provide value and benefits to communities and protect public
health and the environment.
2003 Outstanding Youth Education Program Award - Pinellas County Utilities "Discover a Cleaner Tomorrow" Tour and Education Program.
The Discover a Cleaner Tomorrow Tour and Education Program was developed by Pinellas County Utilities for their South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility, which is a vital component of the County's conservation efforts. Discover a Cleaner Tomorrow is a program of science and conservation education that is meant to teach real life science to students and the public. The goal is to inform the public about the vital role of clean water for quality of life and the importance of stewardship of water resources. A multi-media curriculum-based tour was developed addressing the science of water reclamation that was designed "by and for" educators. The hands-on tour of the facility is supported by educational materials, including an award winning video, a teacher's resource guide, and student notebook.
